On behalf of Malayan Banking Berhad (“Maybank”), Maybank Investment Bank Berhad (“Maybank IB”) is pleased to announce that on 24 July 2017, Maybank has completed its inaugural issuance of RMB bonds in the People’s Republic of China (“PRC”) interbank bond market amounting to RMB1.0 billion in nominal value through a bookbuilding process.

Approval from the People’s Bank of China was obtained on 24 June 2017 for Maybank to issue RMB bonds of up to RMB6.0 billion in the PRC interbank bond market in multiple tranches within a period of 2 years from the date of approval (“RMB Bonds”).

Maybank IB, on behalf of Maybank, had on 30 June 2017 lodged with the Securities Commission Malaysia (“SC”) all required information and relevant documents relating to the RMB Bonds pursuant to the SC’s Guidelines on Unlisted Capital Market Products under the Lodge and Launch Framework first issued on 9 March 2015 and revised on 16 January 2017.

The issuance details are summarised as follows:

(a) Issuer : Maybank

(b) Issue Date : 24 July 2017

(c) Nominal Value : RMB1.0 billion

(d) Tenure : 3 years

(e) Interest Rate : 4.60% per annum fixed

(f) Status : Senior, unsecured

(g) Details on utilisation of proceeds: The proceeds will be used for Maybank’s working capital, general banking and other corporate purposes. This includes utilising the proceeds both onshore and offshore to support activities in connection with the Belt and Road Initiatives, including but not limited to, financing of projects within Asia in various sectors such as the utilities, mining, oil and gas and petrochemical sectors.

(h) Rating : AAA by China Chengxin International Credit Rating Co., Ltd.

China Development Bank is the Lead Underwriter and Bookrunner and HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited is the Joint Lead Underwriter for the above issuance.
