On behalf of Maybank, Aseambankers Malaysia Berhad is pleased to announce that Bank Negara Malaysia ("BNM") had vide its letter dated 5 September 2005 (which was received on 6 September 2005), approved certain proposed amendments to Maybank's Memorandum and Articles of Association.

In line with Section 67A of the Companies Act, 1965 which allows a public company to purchase its own shares, these proposed amendments to Maybank's Memorandum and Articles of Association would facilitate such a purchase should the Company propose to undertake a share buy-back exercise.

Notwithstanding the above, the proposed amendments to Maybank's Memorandum and Articles of Association would be subject to the approval of the Company's shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting to be convened.
