The Board of Directors of Maybank wishes to announce the appointments of Ms Chiam Sou Hong and Mr Vittorio Furlan as Independent Non-Executive Directors of Maybank effective 5 August 2024. The appointments are a step forward towards strengthening the Board’s core skills and competencies.

Ms Chiam is a Corporate, Finance, Regulatory Affairs, Compliance and Risk lawyer with extensive human rights, disputes resolution, mediation, public policy, and anti-corruption experience. She advises governments, institutions, corporations and communities on various laws, regulations and policies. She was the Managing Director, Head of Regulatory Affairs Asia Pacific for Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) Limited and Head of Regulatory Affairs and Policy Asia Pacific for HSBC. She also served as General Counsel and Head of Policy at the New Zealand Human Rights Commission and General Counsel at New Zealand Funds Management Ltd. She prosecuted complex commercial crimes and corruption cases as Senior Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers and represented the Hong Kong Government at the Privy Council. She established the Mediation Ordinance and the Financial Dispute Resolution Centre in Hong Kong.

Mr Furlan has a robust background in digital transformation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence across diverse industries such as banking, insurance, eCommerce, retail, agriculture, telco and public sector. His global experience extends across South-East Asia and is complemented by his experience in internal audit and cybersecurity practices. He had previously held senior positions including Regional Head of Business Insights and Regional Head of Business Operations (for eCommerce & Advertising Operations) of Axiata Digital Advertising and Advisory Director, Data and Analytics of EY Advisory based in Australia and Malaysia. Prior to joining EY Advisory, he worked for over a decade as a Senior Consulting Manager with Accenture Digital in the UK and Australia.

Apart from the above appointments, the Board of Directors of Maybank also wishes to announce that Mr Edwin Gerungan will retire from the Board on 23 August 2024, following nine  years of service on the Maybank Board. He has over 40 years of experience in banking, risk management and treasury, having served in key positions of banking institutions including Citibank, Bank Central Asia, Bank Danamon, Bank Mandiri and PT Indonesia Infrastructure Finance. The Board and Management are grateful for Mr Gerungan’s wisdom and guidance and countless contributions over his past nine years tenure on the Board.
